Here is Part 1 of some thoughts I've had regarding Clan War strategy. Part 2 is below.
Trophy count is NOT a determining factor in matchmaking, so there is no need to trophy dump for Clan Wars. The matchmaking program looks at Hero level, Defenses, Walls and some other stuff to match 2 clans that are similar in ability and number of players. The only trophy consideration is that the number of participants in the war is rounded down to the nearest 5. So, if there are 49 members in the clan when a Coleader starts the war, the bottom 4 players will not take part.
Loot is not lost nor is your shield dropped when you participate. All loot is created from thin air and it appears will be quite lucrative for the winning clan.
After a war is declared there will be a Preparation Day. This is 24 hours for the clan to set their bases up for defense (like you use for a trophy push) and donate troops. You will have the chance to make very specific troop requests, so make sure you donate only what is requested. Someone planning balloon raids won't have much need for giants. It seems like the troops that are already in your Clan Castle at the start of Preparation Day are locked. They will be used for both of your attacks and any defenses of your War Base. Keep this in mind for future Clan Wars. If a War will be starting soon, make sure you request what you need. Once Prep Day starts, your village Clan Castle can be used normally, but the troops that were in it are locked at the War Base.
When the Prep Day is finished, your base config is saved as your War Base, and you can go back to doing whatever you like with your regular village. At this stage there is no mechanism for permanently saving a War Base, so unless you want to reconfigure every 48 hours if wars are running continuously, better set up a good hybrid or drop to a feeder to farm.
Once war is declared and prep starts, anyone changing clans will not be able to participate in the ongoing war. There is a 24 hour cooldown so they will have to wait for the next one.
Day 2 is Battle Day. Each player is allotted 2 attacks only, so care must be taken for everyone to choose attacks they have the best chance of achieving a 3 star victory in. Once a base suffers a 3 star loss, it is considered destroyed and cannot be attacked again. Obviously, the key to success is choosing the hardest possible base you have a decent chance to destroy, and leave the easier ones to lower level clanmates.
Any other thought, ideas or info, please post below and let's get ready to CRUUUUUUUSHHHH!
