Hi guys.
With our next trophy push scheduled for March 1, I thought I would throw out a few tips and strats I've picked up from playing the game. These are personal observations, mostly, as I haven't found time to go scouring YouTube for a bunch of strategy videos.
We've only had 1 trophy push so far, and I'm pleased with that result. With the new talent being developed at our feeder clans and learning a few things along the way, I know we will do much better next time!
Please feel free to add your own ideas in response and I hope this will prove to be a valuable reference.
So here goes.....
Base Preparation and Pre-Push Strategy
1 month prior to the push start I'm playing at a comfortable trophy level. For me now this is about 300 trophies below my Personal Best. You can check this in your profile by clicking the blue 'i' button beside your XP bar and looking at the Sweet Victory achievement.
My Town Hall is outside my base so 9 times out of 10 as soon as I sign off someone sacks it and I get a very cheap 12 hour shield. I lose a few trophies when this happens, but it's not too critical at this stage and I've found a good reason to let this happen. More on this later.
Check your resources and see if you have enough time to save up for and complete any lengthy upgrades in the time left before the Push. If you're thinking of a Level 3 X-Bow you will need time to save the 7 million gold, then 14 days to do the upgrade. Make sure all upgrades are complete at the start of the Push. Obviously as the start date gets closer you will concentrate on any shorter upgrades.
Do not attack anyone on your Revenge List! At least not yet. Having your TH outside before the Push will attract lots of lower level players who are chasing their own trophies. You will get them all back and many more once the Push starts.
The Trophy Push
In the week leading up to the push, we need to start thinking about reconfiguring our base. The TH needs to be protected to prevent losing easy trophies. If you're lucky it can be swapped for something in the centre of your base. If not, you will have to redesign it. A redesign is probably a good idea, anyway, as we are no longer interested in protecting resources as much as when farming.
Protect Your TH!
I recommend a minimum of 3 layers of walls from any point to the location of your TH. The centre section should contain the TH with X-Bows, Mortars, CC and Barb King/Archer Queen. This leaves a distance of 3 tiles all around your TH which means an attacking Queen needs to get very close to a lot of your defense.
Sacrifice Your Storage!
Once the push is on, you only need enough Elixir to fund your army production and Spell Factory. Anything else can be spent on the Laboratory or producing high level troops for your Clanmates. Empty storages will make many attackers move on.
Gold should not be accumulated. Spend it immediately on Walls as soon as you loot it from a raid and keep your traps loaded.
Your Gold Storages are pretty tough (over 2000 HP for Level 11) and should be placed where attacking troops will find it early and be covered by several defense towers targeting ground and air. They can even be placed outside the Walls if your base design requires it.
Request What You Need/Donate What Is Requested
I know, I know, we are CC. We don't rage quit when someone sneaks a Gob or a Wallbreaker into our TH. Let's keep that in mind but try our best to give our Clanmates what they need for their particular attack strategy.
On the other hand, if you are requesting Wizards, Dragons, etc. for your Clan Castle, make sure you produce some equally high level troops to donate in return. These can be queued for production when you sign off and donated later.
Attack Strategy
Obviously, try to pick fights you know you can win. If it looks like a base is too tough for your army to at least achieve a 2-Star Victory, move on. In the event you find a tough base with a lot of loot and you're thinking about taking a gamble on a 1-Star Victory, take a look at the Trophy Win/Loss figure on the left. If you stand to win 24 trophies, a 1-Star will get you a third of this, or 8. Weigh this against the number of trophies you will lose if you fail to win 1 star. It can be over 30 and not worth the risk.
Get Revenge on those Noobs!
Time to take a look at your Defense Log for easy pickings! Start at the bottom (the oldest entries) and look for low level players who attacked your TH for easy trophies before you moved it inside. Usually this will be a simple attack force of mainly archers and maybe barbs/giants. If they are 3 or 4 star troops, you have a likely candidate for a profitable Revenge. You also have the advantage of visiting their base to plan your attack and can even view the troops in their Clan Castle.
Once you have selected some targets, it's time to stalk them! Click The Revenge button and if they have no shield, wipe 'em out. If they have a shield, check back later. If you find one or more that are online, grab a beverage, flip on the Olympics (or whatever) and keep pushing Revenge until they log off.
I'm not sure how it's calculated, but I've seen revenge attacks against low level players yield over 40 trophies! Try to save this strategy for when you reach your natural trophy limit using regular attacks.
Resources Don't Matter
Remember, we only need a win. So pick easy bases you can steamroll for 3-Stars, or undefended TH's that you can tackle with a minimum number of troops. Some of these players will come looking for revenge so stay active to accumulate as many wins as possible and hide behind your shield when you are offline. The Trophy Push will only last 7-10 days so most of these players won't be able to revenge attack you in that time.
Finishing The Push
Once you've reached a certain level, it becomes quite hard to accumulate any trophies as a single loss will wipe out any gains made from several 1-Star victories. This is the maximum trophy level for your individual combination of troop level, attack strategy and base design. Once you recognize you've reached this plateau, stop cancelling your shield to attack. When it expires, you can troll for easy victories, but those will be hard to find at this level. Try to hole up for a couple of days until everyone in the Clan reaches their maximum level. It's time to record a new high score for the Clan.
After The Push
Time to relax! Stop worrying about trophies and accumulate resources to fund upgrades for next time. Another Push will be scheduled around 2 months later. Drop down to one of our feeder Clans, meet the players there, dump trophies until you reach a comfortable level and farm it up!
